My first encounter with yoga was as a young teenager. It wasn’t love at first sight. I was a dancer and yoga poses were just too still for me. It was only as a university student in the Netherlands that I rediscovered yoga. Juggling part-time jobs and demanding university work load was a challenge. Saturday morning yoga class provided this safe place where I could truly unwind. That’s how I found my yogic space I have ever since strived to recreate no matter where I am.

During the time I spent in Australia in my mid-twenties I had a chance to taste all kinds of yoga. Slowly, slowly my practice moved away from high intensity, almost gymnastics type of classes to more gentle and calmer sessions. But I was still searching…

In January 2018 I went to India to do my teacher training. Initially I just wanted to get a deeper understanding of the physical effect of asanas. Thanks to my amazing teachers, I truly fell in love with meditation and pranayama. That was a true awakening moment. I had finally found a source of gratitude and clear-mindedness in yoga practice. I had finally found the space I cherish every day. I had finally discovered the experience I hope to share with you.

I teach classical Hatha Yoga focusing mainly on the asana practice (Yoga poses) and pranayama (breathing techniques). Every class starts with a short pranayama which helps the students to feel more grounded and bring the awareness inwards. This allows us to focus on the present moment. The physical practice is focused on longer holds in poses (asanas) with a use of props (blocks, belts, blankets) to make the poses accessible for everyone. Most poses are offered in varied levels of difficulty for the students to explore and find what fits their body best. In a class, we constantly balance between the active (yang) and passive (yin) to help strengthen but also relax the body and mind. That is why, the class is suitable to students of all age and gender. Most classes include a session of yoga nidra or guided meditation with essential oils. The class is a well rounded ‘detox like’ experience in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere in our beautiful location close to Kunsthaus.
